Hi, I’m Katherine, thank you for checking out Blue Lobster, the home of my hand made rugs and textiles.

Blue Lobster is born out of a passion for unique and memorable one of a kind pieces of decor that are inspired by folk art, nature, and sometimes other things.

Each piece starts as a small drawing that is later redrawn in illustrator and mapped into a full fledged design. It is then projected on to my tufting frame and drawn out again to scale, and then the tufting begins!

Every piece is an original design and 100% hand tufted, sewn and finished by me from start to finish in my home studio on the beautiful North Shore of Massachusetts.

My earliest childhood memory is of my grandmother teaching me how to use her sewing machine. It was from that point I became the kind of person who makes the things I want to see in the world. 

I have a Bachelors in Fine Art, and I’ve had a few good runs as a painter and mixed media artist but I’ve also always been a very domestic person and drawn to traditional crafts and placemaking.

So how did we get here. . . 

One time I bought a rug online and when it showed up it was so ugly and cheap looking, I banished it to my pantry where it would see the minimal light of day. From that point I decided I would just make my own rugs. I really enjoy the entire process and have expanded in to making pillows with ideas on the horizon for other tufted goods.

The problem is, I only have so much floors and so now I make rugs to share with the world. Thank you for getting here, taking the time to learn about what I do and why and please most definitely do reach out, if you have any questions or insights
